I don't know a lot about many things, but that doesn't stop me from learning a bit about a lot of things. I love language(s), the en dash, and parentheses (I use a lot of 'em). Favorite BooksI seem to be a Sentimental Reader. About Me I love reading!! I truly realized how essential reading is after I lost my wife. Now I don't have time to be updated on indie music, I hardly watch movies, and I don't travel much. And actually, I'm fine with all that. But if I don't read for a while, I get a little grumpy and homeostatically off. Well lets say work has taken over the best of me lately. I like to spend a lot of time thinking about books, but not a lot of money on them. I am thus addicted to used-bookstore browsing, library book sales, and Goodreads. I must admit that I am attached to the physical thing that is a book. I am somewhat of a book fondler (as my late wife jokes), and I love organizing (or simply contemplating, while gazing at, the current organization of) my books - currently they're divided into nonfiction and fiction (arranged by geography of author, with separate areas for short stories and poetry).(But I go mostly to the library, which is only 0.1 miles from my house - joy joy!) I loved reading from an early age, thanks to my dad (who was constantly foisting books much beyond my reading level on me, like Leaves of Grass and Beloved, when I was young), my mom (who took me to the library regularly), and my "American grandma" (who gave me musty-smelling books that she'd gifted to her own sons a generation before). I hope to be able to pass along a love for the interior life of the book (and hopefully real books, not just e-books!) to my grandchildren some day too.
